Youth & Family Programs

Treat your kids to a wild learning experience!

Explore wildlife while participating in hands-on activities, tours, and animal encounters. We often go outside during programs so please dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required. For summer drop-off programs for ages 4-17, please visit our Summer Zoo Camps page. For programs for ages 2-3, please visit our Toddlers page.

Please register your children based on the age they will be the month of the class.

Fins & Fur Animal Care Camp (Ages 8-11)

Spend two days over school break taking an active role in animal care at both Great Lakes Aquarium and Lake Superior Zoo! Learn what it takes to keep animals healthy, happy and active. Go behind the scenes to prepare meals, clean exhibits, test water quality, observe animal training and more! Campers will need to provide their own lunch and snacks.

Cub Club (Ages 4-5)

Cub Club is designed for pre-school age children who are able to be successful in group programs without parent involvement. Children will participate in games, interactive activities, role play and crafts. We will explore the zoo, read stories and meet many animal friends!

Homeschool Explorers | Ages 6-10 | Theme: Animal Adaptations
Learn about the amazing adaptations animals have that help them to survive. This year we’ll travel around the world and discover the incredible diversity of animals found in unique places. All classes include touring the zoo, hands-on activities, and animal encounters.

Homeschool Adventurers | Ages 11-17 | Learn about zoo keeping and animal conservation by participating in the care of zoo animals. Students will get to know a different species every session, learn about its care, and spend the rest of class helping out the zookeepers.

Zookeeper Job Shadowing (Ages 13-17)

Wonder what it’s like to work with animals? Spend a morning not just job shadowing but actually helping behind the scenes at the zoo. Prepare animal diets, make animal enrichments, tour our veterinary clinic, watch animal training and more!

This program can be scheduled upon request during September-April. If you have 2-4 teens interested, please contact Jessamy about scheduling a morning that works best for your group: 218-730-4500 ext. 205 or jschwartz@lszoo.org. Groups of 5 or more teens should inquire about our Zoo Careers: Behind the Scenes program.

Cost: $30 per person (includes zoo admission). Minimum of 2 people.
